I'm with you: these SN's can be very overwhelming to a large majority of teachers. I tend to build a wiki or blog for each of my trainings and point them to the SN as places they can go to learn more/get more involved.
Our T4 site is running Joomla. It took a little work to get it up and running but has made adding content a snap.
What software is your T4 site running under? I love the look! I am in agreement with not competing with Classroom 20. However, I also feel that for some of the more hesitant teachers, this SN can be overwhelming. I still am going to direct mine toward my newlearning.ning.com

Excited about the network though - I agree with recent posts - this might be part of the tipping point.
